The foundation of a Shamanism Archive (Institute of Ethnology, Hungarian Academy of Sciences) was suggested by Vilmos Diószegi in 1958. After his death in 1973 some part of his archive was preserved by the Institute of Ethnology (Hungarian Academy of Sciences). Materials on shamanism were continually added by Mihály Hoppál. In 2002 the Shamanism Archive was founded again Dávid Somfai Kara also joined the project adding his own materials too. The research on Vilmos Diószegi’s materials also started. Besides the manuscripts from Diószegi the Shamanism Archive has got a lot of books, articles, notes, photographs, films and a database on shamanic research.
