Jelenetfotó 2.2It is not the profession of lamenter is important in Săpânţa but the connection that she, as a character, develops with those who are prepared to cross the water of Styx. From this point of view, the lamenter is part of an archaic ritual of death. In Săpânţa, simple women, trying to fulfill their duties in life with housework and spiritual responsibilities, become the connecting factors between life and death, when that moment comes. A form of language and theatricality, where transfiguration and the search for an existential script, are the two partners. Profession and vocation – in conclusion, that’s the way the Lamenters from Săpânţa go. The way the Lamenters make their ritual official belongs to the archetype, to the continuity of old life. A weird way, quiet and tragic, human action in the face of the last event in life. In this movie the Lamenters of Sapanta confess: growth, life and death-the three pilons of living which, fix the story of every person from Săpânţa. Behind these ritual events, the mystery of life after death remains hidden but known through intuition.
