For the Westerners, the place is little known and full of mystery, and for the Tibétains it is the abode of a powerful mountain-god who has many followers in Kham and Amdo. As others pre-buddhist deities, Amnye Machen is also a protector of the Dharma. Circumambulating the Amnye Machen takes a week or more than a month for those who make the great prostrations as many believers do. The god has special link with horses and pilgrims are even more numerous on the Horse year. The director and her husband walked the 180 km of the khora with a Tibetan friend who is the main protagonist of the film. The film takes place in the ancient Tibetan region of Amdo (actual Qinghai province). It was an old dream of Marie-Claire to attend the pilgrimage of the Amnye Machen which she heard about when filming the Divine Drums of Amdo in 1996. a film in two parts about rituals celebrating the local deities, and especially the mightiest of them all, Amnye Machen which is the highest mountain dominating the entire region.
