Jelenetfotó 3.3In a very special region, hidden in the mountains, people still preserve a traditional and safe relationship with nature. Yet, under the beautiful mountains lies a precious metal. The documentary writes a 5000 year old history of gold mining in the Apuseni (Western Carpathians) and in particular the history of the gold mining communities of the area. A heritage which is unique nowadays, that witnessed goldmining in the bronze Age, Roman times and in the long centuries that followed. The film also witnesses the degradation of the natural and anthropological environment along the 20th century, mainly after Second World War, as seen by survivors, due to unique antropological research material. At the same time, the film highlights a major danger for the area, the threat of a major open-cast mining project that will destroy unique heritage sites as well as the traditional life of a millenary community. The filmmakers intended to let people know WHAT they are about to lose.
